Changing the Face of Beauty Presents: See Me In 2023

1-DAY WORKSHOP AGENDA

Morning Session: Collaborative Instructional Training

8:30am: Doors open, coffee and light snacks will be served.

9am to 10am: The cornerstone of this event will be a unique instructional session jointly led by PPAM members Marcie Schein Randall (SunSchein Photography), Betty Shilman, and Missy Stevens, plus Kristie Raymond from HumanKind Casting. This collaborative approach aims to provide a holistic learning experience for PPAM members.

Topics to be covered could include:

● "Creating a Comfortable Environment" - Techniques for setting up a photo shoot environment that is comfortable and empowering for special needs subjects.

● "The Nuances of Inclusive Photography" - Jointly presented tips and tricks on capturing natural and flattering angles, lighting, and compositions specifically designed for special needs individuals.

● "The Power of Representation" - Changing the Face of Beauty will delve into the social and emotional impact of having people with disabilities represented in media, giving photographers deeper insights into the purpose and importance of their work.

12:30pm - 1:30pm: Lunch Break ($15 covers lunch)

Afternoon Session: Hands-on Photo Shoot

1:30pm to 4pm: Armed with new knowledge and insights, photographers will be teamed with special needs youth for individual portrait sessions. Multiple stations will be set up to facilitate different types of shooting environments and challenges, allowing photographers to apply the range of skills they learned in the morning.

4pm to 5pm: Networking and Breakdown


PRESENTERS


Marcie Schein Randall

Marcie is a Special Needs Portrait Photographer, photographing people of all abilities. She worked with disabled people of all ages and their families in a variety of settings for many years; she is also the mom of a teenage boy who is medically complex and challenging to photograph. Capturing the beauty and reality of disabled individuals is what she does best, and she creates the images you have always wanted but didn't think were possible. Everyone deserves to have beautiful portraits of the ones they love. Her mission is to let the world see your special loved ones the way you see them.



Missy Stevens

Missy isa dedicated portrait photographer located in Swansea, Massachusetts, with a specialization in capturing the essence of Newborns and families. Her unique passion lies in working with families and children, including those with varying levels of physical and cognitive differences. With 20 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist in Early Intervention, Missy recognized the need for professional photography services tailored to this exceptional group of individuals. She firmly believes that everyone should have access to beautiful images that truly reflect themselves and their families. 


Betty Shilman

Betty has been running her business for eight years and is deeply passionate about her work. In her studio and during portrait sessions, she ensures that everyone feels welcome and valued. The phrase "You are enough" holds significant personal meaning for Betty, and it's the sentiment she aims to instill in her clients during their photo sessions. She wants her clients to feel beautiful, confident, and at ease in their portraits. According to Betty, it's the best job in the world. Betty is the mother of two incredible children. Her daughter has a number of additional needs but is one of the most resilient and strong children you could ever meet. Betty's daughter is also the inspiration behind her passion for photography.

SEE ME IN 2023 is a collaboration between the Professional Photographers Association of Massachusetts (PPAM), Changing the Face of Beauty, and HumanKind Casting. Hosted by Another Age Productions, this one-day workshop is designed to educate, empower, and create impact in the realms of photography, advertising, and the disabled community. The day will blend technical expertise, social awareness, and hands-on experience to benefit both PPAM photographers and special needs youth.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

Changing the Face of Beauty (CTFOB) is an approved 501c3 nonprofit corporation that is committed to equal representation of people with disabilities in advertising and media worldwide. CTFOB empowers people living with disabilities by advocating for inclusive imagery, thus changing perceptions and igniting futures in the media and advertising industries. Changing the Face of Beauty will be achieved through partnerships with both private and commercial retailers, penetrating the creative and business world by Providing cutting edge marketing materials through an inclusion stock image portfolio as well as statistical analysis on the value of inclusion.

HumanKind, LLC is a bespoke casting agency that partners with creative teams to search and uncover genuinely diverse faces and voices to align with brand messaging. HumanKind believes that to move beyond visibility and actually connect, branding and advertising images should reflect the social landscape of the target audience. Whether it’s through the use of social media platforms, live street casting or through decades worth of contacts in their professional network, HumanKind are truly experts at finding people.

● Attendees must sign a waiver that agrees to turn over all photos from the clinic over to CTFOB and/or HumanKind.
● If used for HumanKind promotion, full photographer credits are listed; however CTFOB does not always give full credit when they share images on social media.
● This is a fully volunteer opportunity.
● Attendees cannot sell any photos taken at the event
