Once again, it’s time to start thinking about image competition.
Ken Bovat and Mark Sweeney will share their competition expertise of many years, talk about ways of setting yourself up for success, and how to avoid many of the pitfalls people starting out often encounter.
Learning new skills from image competition carry over to our everyday work, making us better photographers.
We will walk through the Competition Categories and offer our insight on the Twelve Elements images are evaluated by, and the Rules - something people Always forget to read.
We will show you ways to look critically at your images long before the judges put eyes on them, and offer some tips on how to make your images look their very best.
Whether you are a seasoned competition professional or are thinking about taking the leap and entering for the very first time, this program is for you !
Ken and Mark will be accepting images to critique LIVE during the program!
These can be images you just entered in IPC or if you're just starting to work on something new and want some advice, they can delve deeper into it and show you some things you could do in Photoshop to take it to the next level.
This is limited to Attendees only. To ensure your image gets the Deluxe Critique treatment they request images be sent by Monday , November 8th end of day. You can still submit images up to the last minute as well, and they will try their best to fit them in, time permitting.

No names, logos, or watermarks added to your images
Images will be critiqued anonymously by Ken and/or Mark

Biographies
Mark's Photographic career started in high school as a staff photographer for The Elkhart Truth and South Bend Tribune newspapers in Northern Indiana where he photographed sporting events, feature stories and spot news.
He is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Photography and for the past 20-odd years he has been in Clifton Park, New York photographing weddings and corporate events.
Mark holds the Master of Photography, Master Artist, and Photographic Craftsman Degrees from PPA. A recipient of PPA’s Imaging Excellence Award and Imaging Excellence Bar, he’s been a Top 10 Grand Imaging Award finalist in 2019 and 2017 and is a 12 time IPC Medalist, including 2018 Diamond Artist Of The Year and 2020 Platinum Medalist.
Mark is actively involved in PPA. He’s a PPA Councilor, on the Competition Committee, is a Past President of his local affiliate Capital-Champlain and on PPA’s list of Approved Jurors.
Ken Bovat is a Master Photographer, Craftsman, CPP is the owner and sole photographer of Photo-Art by Ken Bovat in Claverack, New York.
He began his business in 1976, photographing mostly weddings and environmental portraits, working out of his home.
As his business grew, he relocated to an old railroad depot, which he converted into his current studio. His photography consists of weddings, portraits - specializing in High School Seniors, copy and restoration and a small amount of commercial photography.
Ken received his Master of Photography Degree from the Professional Photographers of America in 1988 and his Photographic Craftsman Degree in 1992. He was awarded Life Membership in 2014. Ken holds the Certified Professional Photographer accreditation from PPA. In 1998, the Professional Photographers' Society of New York State awarded Ken the PPA National Award. Ken went on to serve a President of that organization in 2003-2004.
Ken reached a personal goal in 2020 of earning 150 exhibition merits.
Ken is the recipient of numerous photographic awards on the local, state and international levels. He has lectured and presented photographic classes to many groups, both professional and amature.
